Refresh Music Library on Android Phones

I know what you’re thinking, “I just downloaded a new mp3 audiobook and I want to listen to it!” Well, let me tell you, I know it’s there, you know it’s there, but does the music player? No. Even stopping the service doesn’t help. What does help?

Open Settings
Go to SD card & phone storage
Unmount the SD Card
Re-mount the SD card
Re-open music

This should do it

  1. worked for me, thanks. However, there should be an easier way, I mean, no need to unmount the sd card.

  2. This is a good and simple explanation of updating music library on android phones, but this method always do not work. Some times the library update become stuck. In that case we will have to clear “media storage” data and “music data” in the “settings>>manage applications>>running” section.
Best wishes and keep up the goood work.

  3. It’s not a good solution if it wipes the playlists (leaves them blank) making them unusable and require recreating. This method wipes the playlists.
